Wide range of gas springs steel C45

All our steel gas springs are standard equipped with a black painted steel cylinder and a hard chrome plated piston rod. These gas springs can be used at temperatures from -30 °C to +80 °C. Higher and/or lower temperatures are possible on request. See below the range of our standard gas springs made of steel, often to be delivered from stock.

Tailor made gas springs

In addition to our standard gas springs, we also produce every possible gas spring to fit your requirement. We do this within the limits of diameter Ø12 to Ø40 for both steel and stainless steel 316. These limits are shown in the table below.

What’s a gas spring?

The gas spring is a hydropneumatic adjustment element, consisting of a pressure tube and piston rod with specially designed piston. A special seal and guide system seals off the tube. The gas spring is filled with 100% compressed nitrogen. The filling pressure acts on the cross sectional area of the piston rod and produces an extension force, which can be ‘selected’ within physical limits.

The principal of a gas spring

A gas spring consists of a cylinder (C) and a piston rod (S) to which the piston (P) is attached. When the piston rod is pressed into the cylinder with the piston, the nitrogen moves from chamber (B) to chamber (A) by special channels. By adjusting these channels, we can adjust the behavior of the gas spring, such as speed and damping. The pressure in both chambers is the same, so the difference in surface area of the piston on side (A) and side (B) ensures that the piston rod is always pushed out of the cylinder. This reaction produces the force of the gas spring. Read more about the working of gas springs.

Calculating the gas spring

In order to choose the right gas spring for your application, a calculation must be made. The calculation itself is relatively simple, but because the centre of gravity of each system continuously changes with the angular rotation, the calculation of gas springs is still a complicated job. Take a look at our page with an explanation of the gas spring calculation or let us do the calculation for you. This is free of charge if you order the gas springs from us. Please contact us for the possibilities or fill in the gas spring form. Do you have the application as a 3D file? You can mail it to us together with your wishes and requirements. Indicate the centre of gravity and weight in relation to the hinge point as an appendix in a closed situation. When sending a Pack&Go it is important that all materials are correctly assigned in order to generate the correct centre of gravity.

Specials & options

At Brimotech we see it as a challenge to supply fully customized gas springs. We can therefore provide almost all of our gas springs with various options:

  • Dynamic damping: a specially shaped groove in the cylinder ensures smooth damping. In this way, we can install the gas spring in any desired position while remaining the damping. They can also be used for horizontal applications such as doors.
  • FDA approved oil: it is possible to supply your gas springs with FDA approved oil. This is particularly interesting for the food processing industry.
  • Specific damping(s): based on your wishes we develop the desired speed and damping, both at the compressing and extending stroke.
  • Friction: adjust the internal friction to fully adapt the gas spring to your application.
  • Lock in | Lock out: an internal mechanism that locks the gas spring when it is fully extended or compressed.
  • Rod Lock: Mechanical locking of the gas spring in any position.
  • Viton seals: ideal for extremely high temperatures or aggressive environments.
  • Anti-tear: simple protection against pulling forces.
  • VB Lock: mechanical locking in fully extended position.
  • Protection tube: additional protection of the piston rod against mechanical damage.
  • Dust cap: additional protective cap for the guide and seal. Can also be used as a scraper.
  • Colors: if required, we can supply our gas springs in different colors.
  • Etc.

Wondering which combinations are most suitable for your application? Feel free to contact us. We like to think along with you.

Tips for a long lifespan of our gas springs

Thanks to the high quality materials of our gas springs, you can count on a good quality gas spring. With the tips below you can easily extend the life of your steel gas springs:

  1. Do not use the gas springs at temperatures below -30°C or above 80°C.
  2. Do not lubricate the piston rod with oil, grease or paint them.
  3. Only load the gas springs axial.
  4. Do not submit pulling forces on the gas spring.
  5. Do not use the gas spring as damper.

In case of doubt about the correct use always contact us for advice or visit our page with tips for more useful advice.
