Supply of gas springs

Our standard gas springs are equipped with a black painted steel cylinder and a hard chrome plated piston rod. Due to the many end fittings options, almost every configuration is possible. If your application requires a specific end fitting, we can engineer, produce and deliver it for you. We have both lockable and non-lockable gas springs in our range. We also offer gas springs in stainless steel316, electropolished.

What’s a gas spring?

The gas spring is a hydropneumatic adjustment element, consisting of a pressure tube and piston rod with specially designed piston. A special seal and guide system seals off the tube. The gas spring is filled with 100% compressed nitrogen. The filling pressure acts on the cross sectional area of the piston rod and produces an extension force, which can be ‘selected’ within physical limits.

The principal of a gas spring

A gas spring consists of a cylinder (C) and a piston rod (S) to which the piston (P) is attached. When the piston rod is pressed into the cylinder with the piston, the nitrogen moves from chamber (B) to chamber (A) by special channels. By adjusting these channels, we can adjust the behavior of the gas spring, such as speed and damping. The pressure in both chambers is the same, so the difference in surface area of the piston on side (A) and side (B) ensures that the piston rod is always pushed out of the cylinder. This reaction produces the force of the gas spring. Read more about the working of gas springs.

Calculating the gas spring

In order to choose the right gas spring for your application, a calculation must be made. The calculation itself is relatively simple, but because the centre of gravity of each system continuously changes with the angular rotation, the calculation of gas springs is still a complicated job. Take a look at our page with an explanation of the gas spring calculation or let us do the calculation for you. This is free of charge if you order the gas springs from us. Please contact us for the possibilities or fill in the gas spring form. Do you have the application as a 3D file? You can mail it to us together with your wishes and requirements. Indicate the centre of gravity and weight in relation to the hinge point as an appendix in a closed situation. When sending a Pack&Go it is important that all materials are correctly assigned in order to generate the correct centre of gravity.

Additional options

At Brimotech we supply gas springs fully customized and based on your wishes and requirements. It is possible to add various options to the gas springs. Think of gas springs with anti-tear cylinder or internal blocking system, friction gas springs and various seals. Our gas springs are supplied as standard in the color black. If desired, it is possible to supply the gas springs in different colors.

Tips for gas springs

Our gas springs are made of high quality materials, making them very durable. To extend the life of your gas springs, you can follow up these tips.

  1. Do not paint, grease or oil on the piston rod.
  2. Load the gas spring only in the direction of the axle
  3. Do not load the gas spring on pull
  4. The gas springs are suitable for temperatures between -30°C and +80°C.
  5. Never use gas springs as a damper
  6. Always ask us for advice if you are unsure about the correct use of the gas spring.
  7. Check out our page with tips for more useful advice.
